The Indian´s
Rocks
San Rafael Reservoir, La Calera (Cundinamarca) |
|
|
|
|
This headland of
very compact sandstone, offers routes from 5.7 to 5.13
US (5 to 7c+ French), with an approximate height of
20 to 30m and a great variety of boulders.
The Indian's Rocks are called this way because of the
Indian village that used to live there. They offer a
very demanding and technical climbing to their visitors
and a spectacular view over the Lake San Rafael. At
the moment this climbing area has 23 routes, mostly
sport climbs and some mixed and classic climbs.
It is recommended to respect nature and the animals
of the place, do not throw rubbish, use the established
paths as well as the ethic for new routes. This area
is part of San Rafael's Lake which is considered a Nature

How to
get there: |
|
|
By bus:
Take a truck in Calle 72 con Cra 13 to La Calera
town, in 35mins you will be there and you can
get off after crossing the river over a bridge,
which is only one block from the central park
and next to the minibus (colectivo) stop.
In La Calera town you can buy all the food and
beverages you need because you may not find
any afterwards. From there you take the way
that leads you the “Voladero de parapente
los Trinos”; you pass by a shop called
“Pony Express” where they offer
food and drinks service, parking places, horse
riding and they can give you information of
how to get to the rocks.
You keep walking on the unpaved road and you
go right in “Rancho Trejos” and
when you get to the Y crossing you will see
a cairn announcing the Royal Road that leads
to Bogotá and Guasca. 20 meters down
this cairn there is an unpaved road with a big
barbed wire fence that leads you to the main
road of San Rafael´s reservoir. (This
walk can de avoided by taking a Tax Calera Ltda.
taxi or a White Taxi located near the Terpel
petrol station, on the main road; and you ask
the driver to take the way to the “Trinos”
without passing the place called Camino al Meta)
From there you go on the unpaved road and when
you get to the main road you go right for about
15 minutes, you pass next to a rock that says
“oro aquí” (here gold) and
then the entrance of a big house called “La
Hacienda el Carmen” which is on the lefthand
side. From this point the reference is a dead
tree of the house, from where you will go right
to a path that takes you to the rocks in 10
mins. You will see a stream on the left.
By car:
You take the way to La Calera on the Cra. 7
and Calle 85, when you arrive to the town you
ask for the place called “Pony Express”;
there you leave your car and you start walking
following the indications of how to get there
by bus.
